Capturing the minds of the next generation!
The team at environment4change are continually inspired by the level of innovation and insight in and around environmentalism. The search, recognition and realisation of great environmental entrepreneurship is critically important to us, as it is against this ‘premise’ we are building the first Platform as a Service (PaaS) for environmentalism. We believe in the energy, intelligence, will and intent of the global community to be the only solution to our worsening pollution, rubbishing and ruination of our shared planet that we are building a software environment (PaaS) to correct this.
The story behind PLAN is one of youthful energy and awareness! With a humble beginning was born a start-up with a view to create the next generation of leaders who thought in measures and mechanics of sustainability. The birth of the company is inspiring and telling, and I share below with you here:
Our pilot program, Trash 2 Treasure (T2T), was started in 2011 by a group of students at the University of New Hampshire, including PLAN founder Alex Freid. T2T collected all of the items discarded by students moving out at the end of the year, stored them over the summer, and held a giant yard-sale during move-in weekend. The program made back enough money to cover expenses for the following year, and became the first student-led, self-sustaining program of its kind in the country. When Alex graduated in 2013, he founded PLAN with the goal of supporting student leaders and providing best-practices guidance to help other campuses launch and sustain student-led, zero waste projects. https://www.postlandfill.org/about-plan/
All environmentalism is born of honesty and care. environment4change is excited to be able to support all future environmentalism. But we promise not only to support but to collect, aggregate, unite, inspire, empower embolden and fund the very best of global environmentalism for the benefit of us all.
Education will play an ever-increasing role in the correction of behaviour that, for the last 50 years, have damaged our shared planet. PLAN and environment4change know and realise without learning, knowledge and experience we are dammed to repeat the sins of the past. Global collaboration will play an important role in both learning and teaching and the environment4change team look forward to enabling, empowering, hosting and supporting them all.
I will leave my final word from PLAN, as I can’t say it better than this:
We live in a world with finite resources – to throw them “away” is simply a waste! Through our network we communicate the detrimental effects that our current waste infrastructure – landfills and incinerators – has on pollution, ocean health, and climate change. This current linear consumption model of take, make, dispose not only depletes natural resources, but disproportionately affects the most vulnerable communities. https://www.postlandfill.org/about-plan/
About PLAN
The Post-Landfill Action Network cultivates, educates, and inspires the student-led zero waste movement. We inform students about the waste crisis and equip them with the necessary skills and resources to implement solutions to waste in their campus communities. PLAN empowers our generation to be changemakers.
